There is a large variety of lawyers in a large state like California. With such a large selection, it can be difficult to select the right lawyer for your case. It can be quite an anxiety driven process. Do you know what to look for? Would you know what questions to ask? Here are some of the things people should be looking for in their representation.
The first thing you should notice is the type of practice is the firm‘s focus. Lawyers tend to only practice a certain type of law much like how some doctors specialize in certain type of illnesses and parts of the body. You don‘t want to hire a divorce lawyer for an auto accident claim. You want to have the best representation available.
Experience is another important thing to look for in a lawyer. Ask how many cases they’ve worked on, and what is their winning percentage. It would certainly be better to hire one who has done four hundred cases as opposed to someone working on their first, and though they may have worked on so many, if they only won or received a settlement on two cases, they aren‘t the best lawyer available. Two lawyers can have worked on a thousand cases individually, but the first lawyer may have a record where seventy-five percent of client received what they were owed, while the other has only received compensation for twenty-five percet.
One of the of things to look for, and is probably on everyone‘s mind, is the fee that the lawyer will charge for their services. It‘s obvious you want a good lawyer, but wouldn‘t you want one you can afford to pay? You may have to settle on a few things like finding an affordable lawyer with a decent record rather than a great lawyer who leaves you in the negative. You want to be able to pay your bills, and not have to worry about going into debt in order to do so.
